World Ocean Day is a UN supported day which is celebrated on June 8th each year. The oceans are vitally important to us, because the ocean produces at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen.
The purpose of World Ocean Day is to recognise it's importance to humans, and to celebrate and appreciate the incredible diversity of mammals, fish, plants and birds that rely on the oceans for food, and as a place to live.
On this day we consider the impact of human actions on the ocean, and try to develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean. We also consider how to sustainably manage the world's oceans.
