What Is Winnie The Pooh Day?

Winnie the Pooh Day is celebrated on 18th January each year. This day was chosen because it is A. A. Milne's Birthday. It is a day for everyone who loves the beloved bear Winnie the Pooh and all his woodland friends - Tigger, Piglet, Owl, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo and of course most important of all, Christopher Robin - to celebrate the Bear Of Little Brain.

The first book about Pooh Bear, Winnie-The-Pooh, was published in 1926. It was based onthe bedtime stories created by A. A. Milne for his young son Christopher, which were inspired by his son's favourite toys. These original toys (Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit, Kanga, and Eeyore) can now be seen on display in the New York Public Library.

A second book about Pooh Bear, The House at Pooh Corner, was published in 1928.

Since then Winnie the Pooh has become a worldwide cultural phenomenom, appearing as soft toys, on clothing and bedding, and almost anything else you can think of. Disney acquired the rights to Winnie the Pooh's film and merchandising inĀ 1961. Adding his now trademark red T-shirt, they made Winnie the Pooh a part of childhood for millions of children worldwide.
