The date for World Book Day in 2024 has been announced as Thursday 7th March 2024.

The day will consist of a celebration of books and reading, and children will be encouraged to come to school dressed up as their favourite characters from literature.

The aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing every primary age child with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

Each year a collection of special books priced at just £1 are published to encourage children of all ages to get reading and have a book of their own.

This year's list of books can be found here.

Children in primary schools across the UK are then given a £1 or (€1.5 in Ireland) book voucher to buy one of the £1 books, or to put towards the cost of any other book.

Each year a book is also published in the Welsh and Irish languages. These are only available in Wales and Ireland respectively.

Many major supermarkets in the UK, large bookshop chains and hundreds of independent booksellers are participating, so check out your local bookshop to see of you can use your voucher.

How Is World Book Day Celebrated?
