Squishies are such a hot trend at the moment!
Unless you've been living under a rock for a while, you'll already know that a squishy is a special type of soft squeezable fidget toy designed for stress relief - a bit like the stress balls of yesteryear, but way more fun.
But instead of those boring office appropriate designs, these ones are bright, colourful and intended for everyone, the most popular ones being shaped like either animals or food. The coolest one of the moment is the viral dumpling squishy, contained in it's own steamer box.
With an adorable smile and it's own little home it has captured peoples hearts around the world!
The other most popular designs are shaped like food packaging such as Japanese-style butter packs (longer and narrower than the typical UK butter packaging), chunks of cartoonish cheese and pieces of fruit are the most sought-after.
The downside of the trend is that the squishies are mostly made from unrecyclable plastic, and there have been reports of some toys containing dangerous chemicals, after unsafe counterfeit squishy toys were seized by Trading Standards officers, having been found to contain unsafe levels of chemical hazards as well as labelling issues, choking hazards, and a lack of age warnings on the packaging.
You can avoid all this and give the kids a really fun craft activity to keep them occupied by making your own squishies - out of paper.
A paper squishy is a homemade, squeezable toy made by coloring, decorating, and taping or gluing paper shapes together and then filling them with soft material like pillow stuffing (Poly-fil), cotton balls, or by recycling plastic grocery bags. It is a creative, low-cost DIY alternative to store-bought foam squishies, as well as giving that sense of acheivement of having made something of your own.
And there are lots of free printable squishy designs available to download and print out, including dumplings, butter packs, beautiful Japanese-style product packaging, fruit and vegetables, food and cute animals.
Here is your chance to get into the viral squishy trend with your own creativity. These are some of our favourites.
