The Commonwealth Games 2026 will take place in Glasgow, Scotland UK from 23rd July to 2nd August, and will be the first games to take place with King Charles III as the head of the Commonwealth. It will include just 10 sports, six of which will include a Para sport element, which are integrated into the main games.

The Commonwealth Games are held every four years and the competitors are drawn from the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations - those countries that were formerly British colonies or dependencies of those colonies.

The 2026 Games were originally due to be hosted by the Australian state of Victoria, however they withdrew due to escalating cost projections. Therefore Glasgow stepped in to take over hosting the event, although the UK had hosted the 2022 games in Birmingham.

Because of this, the event is a slimmed-down and more sustainable event than previous Commonwealth Games have been.

Alongside the sporting event is the Glasgow 2026 Festival which is a ten-week, city-wide spectacular with new artworks, major cultural events, and loads of exciting opportunities to take part in sport, physical activity and fun workshops across every corner of the city, which celebrates the return of the Commonwealth Games to Scotland this summer.
