International Cat Day
International Cat Day, sometimes known just Cat Day, is the annual celebration for cat lovers around the world. It's a day to appreciate and celebrate cats - big and small, wild or domesticated
There is however more than one Cat Day celebrated around the world.
The most widely accepted day for celebrating our feline friends for International Cat Day is August 8th. This day is organised by International Cat Care to highlight important feline-focused topics and raise awareness of cats as a species.
It includes cats of all sizes from lions, tigers and cheetahs to wildcats such as the Scottish Wildcat, Lynx and Snow Leopards through to your snuggly family pet.
Other Cat Day celebrations include:-
- National Cat Day in the United States and Canada is on October 29th. However the Italians celebrate on 17th February, the Japanese on 22nd February and in Russia they celebrate on 1st March.
- National Black Cat Day is celebrated in the UK each year on October 27th.
- Global Cat Day, also celebrated as National Feral Cat Day is a US awareness day for feral cats to encorage them to be trapped, neautered and returned to the wild.
How To Celebrate International Cat Day
The best way to celebrate is to show your pet cat just how much you love them! Give them a favourite meal, buy them a new cat toy or best of all, just spend some extra time making a fuss of them.
Here are some more ideas for International Cat Day:-
- Photograph your cat looking particularly adorable. Post on social media if you wish.
- If you cat enjoys dressing up, buy her a new outfit for the picture.
- Introduce your cat to a fellow cat lover.
- Make a donation to one of the many charities that are supporting and campaigning for endangered big cats, rescuing and rehoming pet cats or offering free vet services and neutering to owners on low incomes.
