Bastille Day

Bastille Day is celebrated on 14th July.
It is France's National Day and is a public Holiday in France.
Whilst in english-speaking countries we call this day Bastille Day, in France it is usually referred to as "le 14 juillet" which translates into English simply as "the 14th July".
The date represents the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, a major event of the French Revolution, as well as the Fête de la Fédération that celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790.
The Bastille was a prison in Paris that held political prisoners held by the then King of France, Louis XVI. An angry mob attacked the prison, and this action is regarded as the beginning of the French Revolution which deposed the king leading to France becoming a republic.
Celebrations are held all across France. One of the most spectacular is held on 14th July itself on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, in front of the President of France, along with other French officials and foreign guests.
