The long summer holidays are over so we're looking ahead to the DVD releases for September and up to the October Half Term holidays, so if you are looking forward to the latest crop of family DVD, Blu-ray and download releases, here's what is coming up for the autumn and Halloween.
As usual there there are lots of DVDs due for release, including Pup Patrol, the live action re-make of Disney's Aladdin, Pokemon Detective Pikachu, Toy Story 4, The Queens Corgi and just to whet your appetite for the Christmas season, last year's installment of the Nativity! franchise is available from the end of October.
So gather on the sofa and watch some great new movies!
The Latest Family Movies - what's on at the cinema right now!
Released on 9th September, A Dog’s Journey (PG) is the next chapter of the beloved bestselling series by author W. Bruce Cameron, following on from last year’s A Dog’s Purpose.
This family film told from the dog's perspective serves as the much-anticipated follow-up to the soulful story of one devoted dog who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love.
The film stars Josh Gad as the voice of the dogs, plus Dennis Quaid, Marg Helgenburger and Betty Gilpin.
When a comet strikes earth, the crew head over to see what’s going on. After digging up the sand around the radioactive meteor, the Paw Patrol stumble upon a magical source that will change their lives forever.

The gang are back in Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups (Cert U), and this time they’re ready to save the world.
The Nickelodeon favourite hits the big screen and stars the voices of Kallan Holley, Berkley Silverman, Drew Davis, Devan Cohen, Samuel Faraci and Carter Thorne. It's out on 16th September.
When ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, his 21-year-old son Tim decides to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former partner, Pokémon Detective Pikachu (Cert PG) a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself.
Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces, chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City--a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side. Together they uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
Out on 16th September, the film stars Ken Watanabe, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Bill Nighy and Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu.
This is the much anticipated live-action adaptation of Disney studio's animated classic Aladdin (Cert PG), which is out on DVD and Blu-ray on 23rd September 2019. You probably know the story; Aladdin, the hapless but lovable street rat is smitten with the Sultan's daughter Princess Jasmine, who wants to have a say in how she lives her life.
Jafar is an evil sorcerer who devises a nefarious plot to unseat the Sultan and rule Agrabah himself. The Sultan, the ruler of Agrabah is eager to find a proper husband for his daughter, Jasmine, but she has other ideas…
Starring Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Navid Negahban and Numan Acar.
After 2014's Godzilla and 2017's Kong: Skull Island, comes Godzilla II: King of the Monsters, (Cert 12) which is out on 7th October. It’s an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance.

The next film in the X-Men series is out on DVD, Blu-ray and download on 7th October 2019. X-Men: Dark Phoenix (Cert 12A) is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all.
It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we've come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet -- one of their own.
The movie stars Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 (Cert U) is also available to buy or download on 7th October and follows summer 2016’s The Secret Lives of Pets.
Max faces some major changes after his owner Katie gets married and has a child, Liam. On a family trip to the countryside, Max meets a farm dog named Rooster, and both attempt to overcome his fears. Meanwhile, Gidget tries to rescue Max's favorite toy from a cat-packed apartment, and Snowball sets out on a mission to free a white tiger named Hu, from a circus.

Toy Story 4 (Cert U), was one of the must-see films of the summer and it is out on DVD on 21st October 2019.
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that's Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called Forky to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
As always, the star voices include Tom Hanks and Tim Allen along with Keanu Reeves, Patricia Arquette and Christina Hendricks.
The Queen's Corgi (Cert PG) is a British animation about the adventure of Rex, the British monarch's most beloved dog, who loses track of his mistress and stumbles across a clan with dogs of all kinds confronting and fighting each other. During his epic journey to return to the Queen, Rex falls in love and discovers his true self.
Out on DVD, Blu-ray and to download on 21st October, it stars the voices of Jack Whitehall, Sheridan Smith and Dame Julie Walters.
Just when you thought they could not get any more mileage out of the Nativity franchise, up pops Nativity Rocks! (U).
We’re back with the kids from St Bernadette’s Primary School in Coventry as the staff and students audition for a coveted place in a spectacular rock musical competition.
It stars a host of top British comedy actors including Celia Imrie, Craig Revel Horwood, Ruth Jones, Meera Syal, Hugh Dennis and Anna Chancellor. It is out on 28th October, and you can get a box set of all four Nativity! movies, released on the same day, if you need to catch up on any of the earlier films.
