The Nutcracker and the Four Realms out on DVD March 2019

As the next school holiday approaches you may be trying to think of things to do in the Easter holidays. If you and your kids are movie fans you will all be looking forward to the latest crop of family DVD, Blu-ray and download releases.

As usual there there are lots of DVDs due for release in March and April, including The Nutcracker, Mary Poppins Returns, Wreck-it Ralph and Fantastic Beasts 2.

So gather on the sofa and watch some great new movies!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

It is not often that a big screen movie is based on a ballet, but with music inspired by Tchaikovsky and a plot based on stories by E.T. A Hoffman, The Nutcracker And The Four Realms (PG) tells the tale of about a young girl, Clara who is gifted a locked egg from her deceased mother and sets out in a magical land to retrieve the key.

Released on DVD and Blu-ray on 11th March 2019. it stars Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Foy, Matthew Macfadyen, Richard E. Grant, Misty Copeland, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman.

The Grinch

Based on the much loved book How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss, The Grinch (PG), also out on 11th March 2019, is an animated version of the Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic. The Grinch tells the story of the cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit.

It features the voices of Benedict Cumberbatch, Rashida Jones and Angela Lansbury and is narrated by Pharrell Williams.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

At the end of the first Fantastic Beasts film, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald escaped from the clutches of the Magical Congress of the United States of America. In Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (12A), has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.

Released on DVD, Blu-ray and to download on 18th March, the film sees the return of Eddie Redmayne, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Katherine Waterston.

Robin Hood

There have been dozens of film versions of the legend of Robin Hood (12A) and in this latest version, Robin of Loxley has returned home from the Crusades to an England undergoing its own conflict. Disguising himself he joins the fight against the corrupt crown.

But everyone in England is curious to know who’s under the hood, and how long can he keep his secret?

Released on 25th March it stars Taron Egerton, Ben Mendelsohn, Jamie Dornan, Paul Anderson, Jamie Foxx and Eve Hewson.

Ralph Breaks The Internet - Wreck-It Ralph 2

The 1st April sees the release of Ralph Breaks The Internet - Wreck-It Ralph 2 (PG) on DVD. In this long-awaited sequel to Wreck-It Ralph, the well-meaning but clumsy computer generated hero, with friend Vanellope von Schweetz go on a new adventure when their arcade gets connected to the World Wide Web.

It’s like nothing they’ve ever seen before, and they’re off on an amazing journey of discovery. Travelling through this virtual metropolis on a quest to save Vanellope’s game, how can these two misfits hope to succeed in this huge, strange world?

The film features the voices of Alan Tudyk, Jack McBrayer, James Corden, Jane Lynch, John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman.

Mortal Engines

Based on the acclaimed novel by Philip Reeve, Mortal Engines is set in a post-apocalyptic  Earth where civilisation has been destroyed by a cataclysmic event, and in this new era, gigantic moving “traction cities” roam the world.

Tom Natsworthy, from the great traction city of London, encounters a dangerous fugitive called Hester Shaw. They should never have met, but together they’ll form an alliance that will change the course of the future.

Mary Poppins Returns

One of the biggest hits of Christmas 2018, Mary Poppins Returns (U) is out on DVD on 15th April. It follows the story of the now grown-up Michael Banks, who needs a nanny when a personal tragedy leaves him with his three children to look after alone. Mary Poppins to the rescue!

The film has and all-star cast which includes Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins as well as Angela Lansbury, Ben Whishaw, Colin Firth, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep and the return of Dick Van Dyke, the only cast member to have appeared in the original Mary Poppins film.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

The Spiderverse is a new universe, where more than one person can wear the mantle and mask of Spider-Man on their journey towards becoming a hero.

In Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (PG), teenage student Miles Morales must juggle his school life with his status and responsibilities as a superhero, but he’s not the only Spider-Man in this world, and things are about to get complicated…

Out on 22nd April, it stars Hailee Steinfeld (busy girl), Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez and Lily Tomlin.
