As 2022 comes around, there is a whole slew of new family movies on the horizon.

Aftere two years of delayed film releases due to Covid-19, it feels so good to be able to look ahead with at least some kind of certainty to the family films that you will be able to see this year.

If you would love to know what's on at the cinema for kids in the coming year, here is our round up of the most hotly anticipated family movies of 2022.

So let's grab some popcorn, let the lights dim and get ready to watch the main feature. Here are the most awesome family movies that you will be able to watch in cinemas this year including Minions: The Rise of Gru, Sing 2, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and lots more.

All The Best New Family Movies For 2022

  1. Sing 2

  2. Late January sees the release, just in time for February Half Term, of Sing 2, the follow up to the hit movie Sing which was released all the way back in 2016.

    Can-do koala Buster Moon and his all-star cast of animal performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet - however there’s just one hitch.

    First they have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star - played by legendary music icon Bono, making his animated film debut - to join them.

    With the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson joining Bono this is guaranteed to be one of the first massive movies of 2022.

  3. Sonic The Hedgehog 2

  4. April 2022 sees the follow up to 2020's first Sonic The Hedgehog movie. Sonic has settled in Green Hills, but is ready for more freedom, and so Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation.

    But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles. They are in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations.

    The movie sees the return of Sonic's own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it is too late.

    Based on the popular video game franchise from Sega, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden and Tina Sumpter lend their voices to the movie.

  5. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

  6. April also sees the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the next in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

    Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches, and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission.

    Mads Mikkelsen takes over from Johnny Depp as baddie Grindelwald while Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law and Katherine Waterson return.

  7. Turning Red

  8. Turning Red is the big new Disney Pixar release for 2022. The movie focuses on a young girl whose adolescent hormones provoke an unusual and hilarious side-effect - she transforms into a giant red panda when she becomes emotional.

    The film stars the voices of Rosalie Chiang, Sandra Oh, Ava Morse, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Hyein Park, Orion Lee, Wai Ching Ho and James Hong. What's more, it is the first Pixar film to be solely directed by a woman - Domee Shi who made the delightful Pixar short Bao.

  9. The Bad Guys

  10. To the strains of Billie Eilish, April 2022 see the release of Dreamworks The Bad Guys.

    In a world where humans and animals coexist, a gang of criminal animals known as Mr. Wolf, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, and Ms. Tarantula have made a deal to go good to avoid serving prison time, with Mr. Wolf beginning to enjoy this new lifestyle, while a new villain emerges.

    With the voices of Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Akwafina, Richard Ayoade and Anthony Ramos.

  11. Lightyear

  12. Toy Story fans will be breathlessly anticipating 2022's Lightyear, as we get to discover the back story of Disney Pixer's beloved character Buzz.

    You'll have to wait until June for this one, which presents the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear - the hero who inspired the toy - introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans.

    Chris Evans lends his voice to Buzz in this animated adventure.

  13. DC League Of Super-Pets

  14. When Superman and the Justice League are kidnapped, Krypto the Super-Dog must convince a rag-tag shelter pack - Ace the hound, PB the potbellied pig, Merton the turtle and Chip the squirrel - to master their own newfound powers and help him rescue the superheroes.

    Krypto and Superman are inseparable best friends, sharing adventures, superpowers and fighting crime together in Metropolis.

    DC League Of Super-Pets voice cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Thomas Middleditch, Ben Schwartz and Keanu Reeves. It will be out in May 2022.

  15. Minions: The Rise of Gru

  16. Summer 2022 sees the release of Minions: The Rise of Gru. released in July, it is set in the heart of the 1970s, amid a flurry of feathered hair and flared jeans.

    A fanboy of a supervillain supergroup known as the Vicious 6, Gru hatches a plan to become evil enough to join them. Luckily, he gets some mayhem-making backup from his loyal followers, the Minions.

    However when he out outsmarts the gang, he has to team up with ousted leader Wild Knuckles to survive.

    An amazing voice cast includes Taraji P. Henson, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Michelle Yeoh, and Oscar® winning legend Julie Andrews.

There are a number of other movies rumoured for release later in the year - including Puss in Boots: The Last Wish which is scheduled for release in September 2022, and stars Antonio Banderas as the famous cat burgler!

There is also a Minecraft movie planned for release towards the end of the year.
