Off The Wall Family Holidays

Although a sand, sea and sun package might be just what you're after for this year's holiday, don't let having a family in tow deter you from going on a holiday with a difference. Here Responsible Travel, specialists in holidays which respect the environment and give something back to the places and people that you visit, give us just a few ideas from their wide selection of extraordinary and unconventional holidays for families.

For example, you can still get a firm dose of sea and sun but with the added bonus of getting active and exploring the underwater world on a Family diving holiday. Not only is this dive centre a PADI 5 star Gold Palm Resort set in over 1500 meters of beachfront, there are an array of other activities you can try such as snorkelling, windsurfing, camel riding, horse riding, quad bikes, amazing scenery to explore, and if all this activity gets too much there's always the option of chilling out on the private beach and reading a good book next to the sea and under the palm trees!

If you were considering going on an altogether different type of holiday this year, you can give something back by going on a choice of Family charity challenge. You can go on a charity adventure in Thailand, trek the Great Wall or go trekking in Cuba to support a good cause.

Have you always dreamt of climbing Everest but can't wait until the children have flown the nest? There's no need to wait anymore as you can just bring them along on this Everest family holiday, which includes a six day trek to see Everest as well as various other cultural and natural highlights.

For a trip not so far from home but with plenty of challenge, it is even possible to cut your carbon footprint right down by avoiding flying to this Switzerland family walking holiday. This unusual trip sees you walking from village to village with donkeys and mules carrying bags (and occasionally tired children), enjoying picnics in alpine meadows along the way.

It is also possible to take your family on a discovery trip to Peru which presents the perfect opportunity to explore the colourful culture of Peru, both ancient and modern. Explore the arid highlands around Arequipa, Lake Titicaca with its famous 'floating islands', the Inca city of Cusco and the amazing ruins of Machu Picchu, the 'Lost City of the Incas'.

And finally, if you haven't had enough of the cold weather yet, why not take your kids to witness the Reindeer Cup Championships in Lapland in March or April? The magical environment of the base in Finnish Lapland is also the perfect location for all sorts of snow-based activities. You can try your hand at kick-sledding, skiing, snowshoeing, skating and tobogganing, all of which allow you time to marvel at the surrounding wilderness.

Of course Responsible Travel have many more holidays to choose from on their site, ranging from relaxing luxury holidays to active adventures, cultural holidays to safaris and you can search their family holiday section to find your perfect holiday whether you want to travel for relaxation, fulfilment, discovery, adventure or education.
