Children’s Organic Clothing Range Inspired By British Countryside

Based in Kent and inspired by the local countryside, a new range of organic children's clothes, called Apple Tree Clothing Company has been launched. Set up by mum Natasha Davidson-Houston, the company was started after she identified a gap in the market for organic, earth friendly children’s clothes.

Says Natasha, "Like many children, my daughter had sensitive skin as a baby. I used a lot of organic baby clothes because I wanted to minimise her exposure to harmful chemicals like pesticides. When my daughter became a toddler and grew out of the baby clothes I realised how hard it was to find good quality organic cotton clothing that I liked."

"So I decided to produce my own and I wanted to do this in an ethical way. I live in rural Kent and have taken a lot of inspiration from the countryside to influence the designs and help children learn about their environment."

The organic cotton used by Apple Tree Clothing Company has been tested and
certified to the internationally recognised Oeko-Tex 100 standard to ensure it is free from concentrations of harmful substances. Environmentally responsible waterbased dyes have been used for the t-shirt prints. The t-shirt supplier has signed up to the Clean Clothes Campaign which means they have a responsibility to make sure that their workers receive a living wage and decent working conditions.

The first range consists of long-sleeved t-shirts made from organic cotton, each with a print inspired by the British outdoors. The designs have been produced in collaboration with 2 artists, Ellie Early and Annabel Wright. The t-shirts introduce young children to creative design and help them learn about the natural world.

Natasha says: “I hope these t-shirts will appeal to other parents who care about the environment and our countryside, and help them to share this interest with their children.”
