There are two things that all families with children need more of; space and money! Solve both problems by sorting through all those things which you never use, and sell them. There are lots of ways which you can do this.

One quick and well known way is the Car Boot Sale. Nowadays they are much more civilised, many taking place in the afternoon. So, no more arriving at six o'clock on a Sunday morning to have any chance of a decent pitch. Your prices will have to be low, and your best bets to sell are kid's toys and equipment, and household items.

Maybe you don't fancy standing around in a field? Well, if you are reading this you are probably pretty internet savvy, so use that savvy and sell your stuff online!

That original place for selling unwanted items, the local paper, has gone high tech and in many cases you can place your ad online and often for free. If you are lucky your item could be advertised on the website as well as in the newspaper.

Many of the classified papers such as Adtrader or Loot will also allow sellers to advertise free online with your item appearing in both the publication and the website too.

If you have books, CDs, DVDs or videos you can advertise them for free on Amazon.co.uk, one of the most visited websites in the UK! How good is that!

Got to their Marketplace section and just follow the instructions. Your item will be advertised for 60 days and if it hasn't sold you can re-list it, free, as often as you like. When you sell, Amazon.co.uk take a percentage commission, and you have to post it to the purchaser. One thing to remember; make sure the price you charge is enough to cover the postage. Your buyer is charged a flat rate of postage regardless of the size, and if the item is heavy you could spend more on postage that you get for selling it.

The other way to clear the attic is on the number of online auctions available. It's great fun too! The best known is eBay, but there are many with varying fee structures. Postage is in addition to the cost of the item, but choose your charge carefully. Too high, and people might be put off bidding, too low and you will lose money.
