New Radio Station Launched
- Just for Parents

A first time father has launched a radio station for parents after feeling isolated following the birth of his baby daughter.

Peter Gallacher, from north Wales set up www.mybabyradio.com for parents dedicated to bringing up new born babies. The 33-year-old’s daughter Isabel is now seven months old but Peter admits that the early days were difficult.

"Isabel is my first child. My wife and I felt as though our lives would never be the same again. When our daughter first came home she was an angel, but after the first few days all hell let loose." he said.

The father-of-one said they were desperate for advice and tips. His wife, Joanne, turned to friends and family members who’d recently had babies to find out why Isabel was crying or refusing to sleep at night.

He said they just wanted reassurance: "Our midwives and health visitors were all lovely individuals but we heard a lot of conflicting advice. Although Joanne and I were addicted to TV shows about new parents, we didn’t really have the time to sit through the programmes or read parenting magazines."

"Then it suddenly hit me, all these mediums need your undivided attention, if this information was on the radio you could just tap into it and get on with your daily baby chores. Hence mybabyradio.com was born."

Peter, who now lives in Coedpoeth, Wrexham has worked in radio for the past 12 years. Peter says "The internet and technology has completely changed the way people now listen to their favourite radio station. You can log on at work, at home and it won't be long before we can log on through your car radio - something that is already in development. As the nations favourite pastime, it's safe to say that we've not seen the end of the internet's technological development".

The new station, to be launched on Monday the 2nd of October 2006 will be a mixture of great music, interviews, tips from fellow mums and dads and expert advice from health professionals. The station will also include regular celebrity guests and specialist shows.

"I had no idea that nine months after my wife got pregnant we would be planning a new baby – at least for now it’s just a new business".
