Tweet Green RabbitHazel Harkness of www.greenrabbit.co.uk, tells us about how she decided to produce her unique range of colourful, fun, soft cotton clothing for babies and toddlers. ![]() "GREEN RABBIT was launched after the birth of my gorgeous daughter Scarlett. I wanted to start shopping for my bump before the arrival, but not knowing the gender and being faced with a sea of pastel blue or pink I found it really hard. I wanted my daughter to stand out and wear bright, colourful clothes, not a pastel mush, as it is known that babies only see strong contrast colours at first and it is not until quite some time that they can see pastel shades." "Once Scarlett was here I became so aware of the essential need for comfort, softness, and washability in babies clothes. We ponder over so many books etc. before they arrive, as we want the absolute best for them and then when they do arrive they are offered such restrictive clothing – buttons, zips, bulky pockets, bootleg shaped trousers…….which adult doesn’t prefer wearing jogging bottoms for comfort than a tailored trouser, and we are not learning to move?!" ![]() "So with over 15 years working in Womenswear as a Buyer and Product Development Manager I decided to go it alone and GREEN RABBIT was launched." "GREEN RABBIT clothing is all about these long awaited bunnies. Maximum care goes into designing the range – it is their comfort that counts. My biggest bugbear is the trousers that are offered for sale. So our trousers have wide elastic waistbands, so no digging into their little tummies, and allowing for snappy nappy changing (enough room for real nappies too!) as well as easier toilet training and there is less seams for their sensitive skin to rub against. Wraps are an important silhouette for babies or toddlers not wanting garments to be pulled on over their heads. I wanted getting dressed and undressed, several times a day, to become a breeze for babies and careers but also for toddlers learning to dress themselves." ![]() "There are no insipid colours that babies cannot see and focus on, but it is all bright and bold so they will be stimulated visually by what they are wearing - just like their folks will! For a bit of fun the colour names all relate back to those early weaning days and the prints after smoothies and ice cream – an essential for any mummy!" ![]() "Freedom to grow, stretch, giggle and wriggle around is the essence in all the designs." "I wanted the garments to be made in the UK, which they all are, except for the ponchos, which are expertly knitted in Peru, as it is the home of the poncho! Only 100% pure soft cottons are in our range, so are perfect for performance both inside the washing machine and out!" "Now that Scarlett is older she helps me pack the orders - so she is getting a head start on mathematics! And sticks the stamps on – so sometimes are somewhat squew whiff! But most importantly she gives each one a kiss before they are sent off! Now her little sister Florence is here she is benefiting from comfy, bright, stylish clothes from the beginning, which you can tell from her huge smile and giggles!" ![]() About the Author:
