Reading For Life

Singer Sinitta supports a new child literacy campaign

30th September 2009

The importance of literacy is obvious. Everywhere you look, you see words – on signs, on buses, in books. Adults who can’t read risk becoming isolated from society which is why it’s so important to get kids reading when they’re young, long before they become adults.

New research reveals that 87% of the British public believes good literacy skills are essential for children to cope in today’s society. However the findings also highlight that it’s the mums that are more likely to read to their kids than dads, with 39% of dads stating a better work/life balance would help them to read more to their kids.

A new campaign has been launched to give Mums and Dads tips on reading to their children. Marmite has teamed up with Reading for Life, to offer free downloads of popular children’s character Horrid Henry. As this video shows, singer Sinitta is also involved, helping to bring his stories to life.
