Charity Offers Free Adventure Holidays For Armed Forces Children

23rd March 2009

The Royal British Legion is offering free week-long adventure breaks to children of men and women who are currently serving, or have served in the Armed Forces.

The Legion’s Poppy Adventure Breaks, being held in three areas of the UK during Easter and the summer holidays, are a great opportunity for young people between the ages of 12 and 17 to have fun, meet new people, and improve their self esteem.

The free, week-long breaks are being held in Nottinghamshire, Berkshire and Suffolk. Funding will cover 7 nights full board with all daily adventure activities included, such as mountain biking, kayaking, football, creative workshops and swimming. Other costs covered will include minibus transfers, pocket money and a day at a theme park.

Ian Philip, Operations Manager for Poppy Adventure Breaks, said: “The Poppy Adventure Breaks scheme was successfully piloted last year and we’re delighted to be able to offer further free breaks for teenagers connected to the Forces in 2009.

“This scheme offers a break for children and also for the parents during the Easter and summer holidays. It’s also more prevalent this year, given that we’re all feeling the pinch in the current financial climate.

“We particularly want to encourage the dependants of the men and women who may currently be on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, but youngsters from all service or ex-Service related backgrounds are welcome to take advantage of this offer.”
