Out DVD Christmas 2005

The DVDs the kids will be begging for this Christmas.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Cert PG) was the must see movie of summer 2005. This version of Roald Dahl’s glorious wish fulfilment fantasy (Most children would love their own chocolate factory after all. Actually so would I….) Starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, James Fox, and Freddy Highmore as Charlie, this Tim Burton (Batman) directed version provides a darker, edgier Willy Wonka than Gene Wilder's 1971 interpretation.

Madagascar (Cert PG) is the latest from the makers of ‘Shrek’ and ‘Shark Tale’. This is the animated tale of a Giraffe (David Schwimmer), a Lion (Ben Stiller), a Zebra (Chris Rock) and a hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith). Due to some misdemeanour they are banished from their cushy life in New York Central Park Zoo to Madagascar, where they have to learn the laws of the jungle from scratch.

Herbie - Fully Loaded (Cert U) Sixties nostalgia is updated for this new movie about the world’s most famous VW Beetle. Starring Lindsay Lohan and Michael Keaton, this Disney offering tells the story of a girl who wants to be a racing driver, and Herbie is the car to help her achieve her dream. With lots of action and computer effects to make Herbie as human as possible, this fun movie is a worthy successor to the ‘Love Bug’ films of the sixties.
