We're looking ahead to May Half Term and beyond with a rundown of all the family movies coming to cinemas in May and June.

Sherlock Gnomes

First up is Sherlock Gnomes (U) which is sure to be the must – see family movie of May half term. Having taken on Shakespeare in Gnomeo and Juliet, the next literary giant to get the gnome treatment is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous creation.

When Gnomeo and Juliet first arrive in the city with their friends and family, their biggest concern is getting their new garden ready for spring. However, they soon discover that someone is kidnapping garden gnomes all over London. When Gnomeo and Juliet return home to find that everyone in their garden is missing – there's only one gnome detective to call.

Out on 11th May it features the voices of Emily Blunt, James McAvoy, Johnny Depp, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mary J. Blige and Michael Caine.

A Wizard’s Tale

A Wizard’s Tale (TBA) is an animation released exclusively in Vue cinemas, also on 11th May. Set in a world where happiness, smiling and laughter are a thing of the past; where an evil wizard presides over all that is good in the land.

Join Terry on his magical quest to restore happines, as he outwits a multitude of weird and wonderful creatures and finds friendship with a Princess along the way.

With the voices of Ian McShane, Lily Collins and Toby Kebbell.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

May 25th sees the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story (12A) the much anticipated Star Wars spin-off with Han Solo’s back-story.

Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes.

Starring Alden Ehrenreich, Clint Howard, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Paul Bettany, Thandie Newton, Warwick Davis and Woody Harrelson.

Show Dogs

Show Dogs (PG) is set in a world where humans and sentient dogs co-exist, a macho but lonely Rottweiler police dog named Max is ordered to go undercover as a primped show dog in a prestigious dog show with his human partner Frank to scupper a ring of animal smugglers.

Also released on 25th May, Show Dogs stars Will Arnett, Natasha Lyonne and Jordin Sparks with the voices of Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Gabriel Iglesias, Shaquille O'Neal and Stanley Tucci.

Zoo

Zoo (PG) is set during World War Two and is based on a true story set in Northern Ireland. Released on June 8th it is the story of a boy and his friends who attempt to rescue an elephant during the German air raid bombings in Belfast in 1941.

The film stars Toby Jones, Amy Huberman, Art Parkinson, Penelope Wilton, Ian McElhinney, Damian O'Hare and Stephen Hagan.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Four years after the Jurassic World theme park was closed down, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (12A) sees Owen and Claire return to Isla Nubar to save the dinosaurs when they learn that a once dormant volcano on the island is active and is threatening to extinguish all life there. Along the way, Owen sets out to find Blue, his lead raptor, and discovers a conspiracy that could disrupt the natural order of the entire planet.

Released on 8th June, the film stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt and Jeff Goldblum.
