National Kite Month 2009

April is National Kite Month and coinciding with the Easter break it offers the perfect time to go outside with the children and enjoy a fun, family day out together.

Everybody benefits from being outdoors and getting plenty of fresh air, especially children. Research from Child Care Aware shows that being outside helps children grow, physically, socially and emotionally.

Pom-Bear recognises the many benefits for children of maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle, including being active and encourages parents to spend fun time together outdoors as much as possible.

Flying a kite is great fun and provides a no (or low cost) day out for the whole family.

To make sure that you and your family are safe while kite flying, make sure you follow Pom-Bear’s kite flying safety tips:

  • Never fly your kite near traffic
  • Always fly away from other people and remember to be considerate of others
  • Never chase a kite which you have lost control of
  • A medium wind level is best (5-25mph). Too low or high a wind make kite flying difficult. Never fly a kite in heavy rain or stormy weather
  • Never fly a kite near telephone or power lines. Make sure you and your children leave plenty of space and watch out for kite-eating trees! Open fields, parks and beaches are ideal

This year Pom-Bear is learning how to fly a kite and is offering you the chance to win a special edition Pom-Bear kite for your family. There’s one to be won every hour from May 18 - August 18. See packs for details or visit www.pom-bear.co.uk for more chances to win Pom-Bear kite goodies, information about kite flying, and for your children to join the Pom-Bear club and play fun games.

Take Better Photos of your Children
Keeping a record of your children as they grow up is something most parents love to do. Don’t we just love to take photographs of everything the kids do, from birth to graduation and beyond?

Out Of The Chorus And Into The Spotlight!
The success of TV shows like X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent has left a generation of children that are obsessed with the idea of being a famous pop star. Unfortunately not everyone was born with a set of lungs like Leona Lewis, or Girls Aloud. If you think that your little darling could do with some help, then you're in luck.

Build Your Own Go-Kart
As your children get down to another blast of high-speed virtual carting, don’t you wish they could be out in the park, doing it for real? Old-time fun is, of course, the whole idea behind The Dangerous Book for Boys, which has a ‘Making a Go-Cart’ chapter. But as the authors concede, it’s hard to find the parts these days – particularly the steel wheels and axles.
