Princess Poppy Grows Up!

Princess Poppy fans who have grown up with the residents of Honeypot Hill will be pleased to hear that there are now two new books about Princess Poppy. Aimed at children aged 7 to 9 years old, the books, The Haunted Holiday and The Big Mix Up by Janey Louise Jones are little novels which continue to tell the story of Poppy, who is a princess to all who know her.

The Haunted Holiday is packed with mystery and intrigue and makes a perfect summer holiday read. As always in the Princess Poppy books, author Janey allows the reader to explore and develop with their heroine. In her latest exploit Poppy and her best friend Honey are off to France with Honey’s mum and dad.

This is Poppy’s first real holiday away from the idyllic village of Honeypot Hill, first time on a plane and first time away from her family - her tummy is full of fluttering butterflies. Janey explains, ‘Holidays are great fun, but there are children who do feel the effects of being taken out of their comfort zone and need to be reassured. First-time experiences such as flying or staying in a hotel can be unsettling as well as exciting. I hope that sharing these feelings through Poppy will help my readers have a thoroughly enjoyable summer.’

In The Big Mix Up, Poppy and her mum take some time out from looking after the new baby twins to spend a day together working in Honeypot Hill’s sewing shop. Poppy gets a little carried away with the lure of village gossip and she soon finds herself spreading rumours and untruths.

‘Gossiping is something we have all been guilty of,’ admits Janey, ‘but we need to make sure our little ones know the repercussions of idle chit-chat. Tittle-tattle will almost always hurt someone’s feelings and as our reader is at a stage in their life where empathy is very important to them we need to make sure they understand the consequences of their actions. Poppy is a great guinea-pig.’
